The nation's student loan debt crisis is a hot topic and we want to be a part of the solution. South Carolina Student Loan Corporation partners with employers to solve workforce shortages around the state via BOLD - Better Outcomes, Less Debt. We aim to connect students, educators, and employers to create an outcome-driven process to develop career pathways leading to employment. This program results in students graduating with less debt, early recruitment for employers, and schools connected to industry allowing for real time influence through strategic partnerships, mentorships, or volunteer opportunities. Explore alternatives to a CNA certification for Health Science 4 classes. As of 2019, a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) is now an industry-recognized credential for Health Science completers. We will focus on how to get a CCMA program established as a clinical course for the Health Science pathway. Learn how to incorporate the EKG Technician Certification to maximize opportunities for students and help them to be Career Ready.

Students are faced with making choices around their overall wellness every day. With EVERFI’s digital health and wellness curriculum, kids are taught that the choices they make and habits they form now become the foundation for the lives they lead as adults. This session will highlight EVERFI’s FREE digital wellness resources surrounding topics like: mental health awareness, vaping prevention, prescription drug safety, alcohol education, digital wellness and safety, and healthcare literacy. These lessons are available to all South Carolina educators at no cost. Attendees will walk away with immediate access to EVERFI’s platform, directions on how to explore the digital lesson catalog, and implementation ideas to get students started. The South Carolina AHEC Health Careers Program supports diverse groups of high school and early college students on their paths to becoming healthcare professionals and building a future healthcare workforce that will reflect the diverse range of communities it serves in South Carolina. The program introduces students to health careers, supports their preparation for health professions education programs, and develops skills that help them succeed on their path to a health career. To support the day-to-day activities of the Health Careers Programs, students are involved in regional health careers academies, community service projects, live webinars, and summer enrichment opportunities. South Carolina AHEC created free, self-paced, online modules open to students in the state interested in careers in healthcare. The modules are designed to help students expand their knowledge and develop skills that will help them on their career path.

Engage students to customize and individualize their learning to fit their needs. Learn techniques and activities already created that you can bring into the classroom tomorrow. This session is geared towards a health science clinical class setting, but can be tailored to work in any class setting.

The Health Science State Lead will address frequently asked questions and place emphasis on any changes, new courses, student credentials, teacher certifications, innovative courses, and the completer path. New initiatives and directions released by SCDE for the future vision of education will be shared.

Discussion include past year results, upcoming conferences, and general updates to both organizations. SC HOSA Future Health Professionals is an organization for students interested in a healthcare career. ACTE Health Science Educators Association is an organization for health science teachers.
