70. Using Technology to Increase Depth of Knowledge
One of the top four myths about using computers in K-12 classrooms states that putting computers into schools will directly improve learning; more computers will result in greater improvements. So, how is that working for you? Just because schools, teachers, and students have access to technology does not guarantee that student knowledge will improve. What’s needed is a common language that can be used across disciplines that identifies different degrees of classroom technology integration. Mr. Puentedura’s SAMR model does just that. His model categorizes strategies for classroom technology implementation into four stages-Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. These strategies show teachers how to personalize learning and help students to visualize complex concepts. This presentation is designed to help you to understand the key components of the SAMR model and provide an example of an activity as it manifests within these four stages.
